![]() ![]() I used Microsoft support a couple of times, to solve issues with Windows and Xbox, mainly. The biggest issue of Dropbox is their lack of communication and support, with their PAID costumers. However, it's how the companies deal with problems that defines if a company is good/reliable, or a trash one, like Dropbox. I also agree with you when it comes to problems. Unfortunately, I learned it the hard way. I should had never used it as a backup option. ![]() I didn't know how to use cloud services properly. Stay with Onedrive, and always have at least one more local backup for your important data. And besides you take the whole Office 365 package with the subscription. If this is true, everyone relying their own data on Dropbox is at risk.īased in their support experience and honesty with their paid costumers, definitely everyone should be aware and backup their data somewhere else ASAP, specially if using Smart Sync. There are some rumors that they are going bankrupt, consequently loosing users' data. There are even some business fighting for months, trying to recover their files. They also ignore you in their social media. If you create another account to be able to comment in their discussion forum, you get banned as soon as you mention this issue. There is no support whatsoever, Dropbox is not a reliable service. In my case, I've lost eight years of my life in data because of this Smart Sync. All of a sudden, you lose access to all your files, even being a paying customer for years. They have been disabling lots of paid accounts with no reason and no beforehand notice. It seems you have no idea of the posts about Disabled Accounts lately. Actually, it's the WORST company I've ever heard of. Don't do that! There is no reason Dropbox is better than anything. What incentive, or advantage is there for using dropbox, since it will cost me 120 bucks a year and I'm already paying for office365?ītw, this is for personal use and I typically have 3 to 4 PCs plus my iPhone So basically, I have to deal with odd quirks every so often but overall it doesn't suck My desktop was flooded with files from another laptop that my wife uses and she puts everything on the desktop (she uses my account on the other pc) Suddenly a few days later it turned off. I have that turned OFF on my desktop, but suddenly one day it turned itself on, and wouldn't turn off. With OneDrive, you can have it set to sync your desktop, pictures and documents folder. Prior versions of windows onedrive would stop working completely, though with windows 10/11 that doesn't seem to be an issue. I was using dropbox about four or five years ago, but once I subscribed to office365, I largely stoppedĪnyways onedrive has its quirks and issues, I've run into problems where a given file will suddenly stop syncing. NET or Mono.I've been asking around different sites on whether I should go with dropbox, and I'm sure over-thinking things but I figured let me ask some actual people who use dropbox. Some of them depend on external framework like. They look outdated and don't fit the macOS UX. ![]() But all of them have a very clumsy interface that put me off. In theory these apps would get the job done, they promise to sync a cloud service to a local volume. GoodSync/ Duplicacy / Syncovery / Duplicati Also doesn't offer acess to their cloud using WebDAV, SFTP or any other protocol making it a closed system to their app. Super fast data transfers (in EU), unfortunately no sync on the mac app. I tried to duplicate a folder using a mounted webdav volume, but it turned out to be too unreliable and failed to copy many files. Really good and simple software, but mainly focused on backup, so it doesn't offer sync. I tried a couple of other options without much success and here's the breakdown. Seems like it would do the job, but at $8/month it's prohibitive. I make changes to the cloud storage, the app tells me it needs to sync with the External HDD, but the sync never starts. The sync process doesn't start when I plug my External HDD back in. I.e.: If I delete a file from the cloud storage, the Synchronise function will re-upload the file back to the cloud storage instead of deleting it from the External HDD. The solutions I have tried so far, without success: It seems like a simple task, but I couldn't find any reliable way to make it work. Question: Is there a software tool to do that? I'm on a macOS Sierra and need 1TB of cloud storage.įor cloud storage I'm planning to use one of those: So, the changes made to the cloud (new files or deleted files) would reflect on the External HDD and vice-versa. I need a way to execute a 2-way sync every time the External HDD is plugged in. I basically want to have a clone of my External HDD uploaded to a cloud service. ![]()
